My Favorite Coupe: The Chevrolet Camaro

The Chevy Camaro has been a legend in terms of muscle car speed and beauty. This vehicle was first introduced in 1967 and did extremely well. It was powerful, gorgeous, and very comfortable. There have always been various models of the Chevrolet Camaro to select from. There is the base model and those that offer extras both for the exterior and the interior designs.

Over the years things just kept on getting better and better for this vehicle. In 1968 a big design change was getting rid of the vent windows on the sides of the vehicles. They were replaced with astro ventilation. The grille on the front of the vehicle was improved and the additional of side marker lights only further made this a great looking vehicle. There were more changes in store for the 1969 model and the wider look of it make that one of the best selling vehicles that year.

For many like myself there is no comparison to this first generation of Camaro. They were well built and offered some of the best features available during that period of time. You will find many collectors out there that have restored such a Chevrolet Camaro to its original glory. Even project cars though are expensive due to the limited number of them left out there. You will find many of these early generations Camaro vehicles out there on the drag strip though.

The second generation of Camaro ranges from 1970 to 1981. What is referred to as the 1970 ½ is a rare model, featuring a split bumper. The biggest problems for the Camaro in this time period had to do with the emissions laws and the cost of fuel. It was hard for consumers to buy such an amazing car when they had to worry about the cost of the fuel to keep it operational.

For several years sales were decent and then they started to soar again in 1975. Over the years there were some slight changes to the body style. In 1978 a big change was to the nose of the vehicle. The Chevrolet Camaro coupe was offered in five body styles this year though instead of just three.

The third generation of the Chevrolet Camaro ranges from 1982 to 1992. They didn't do very well though due to the competition of other muscle cars including the Ford Mustang. To help improve sales they introduced an upgraded motor in 1987 that enticed those looking for speed. In 1990 they decided to end the IROC model and in 1991 the Z-28 model was introduced again. This was also the year that law enforcement agencies started using the very fast Chevrolet Camaro for patrol cars.

The fourth generation of Camaro is from 1993 to 2002. During this period of time there were numerous changes to the style of the vehicle. It seems that Chevrolet was trying anything and everything they could to get the Camaro back on top. Overall sales were poor though and in 2002 they decided to cut the Camaro from their line up.

That isn't the story though for my favorite coupe - the Chevrolet Camaro though. The vehicle was revamped and introduced again in 2010. It offered a retro body style very similar to the first generation. Yet there were perks including today's technology in terms of safety, brakes, and so much more. It was a huge selling vehicle that year and continues to be so right now. In fact, many consumers are eagerly awaiting the arrival of the 2012 models!
